Stokke MyCarrier

It's not uncommon for a baby to put up a fuss when you start to put them down.  Being held up close to mom or dad is an incredibly effective soother.  Holding a baby all day long, however, is not always possible or practical.  The solution?  The Stokke MyCarrier.

The Product:

The Stokke MyCarrier is a 3-in-1 baby carrier that can be used from birth (or 7.7 lbs) to three years old (or 33 lbs).  It's an ergonomic and comfortable carrier for both the wearer and the baby, giving a sense of security throughout an active lifestyle.  The included three year warranty outlasts that of competing companies while the soft organic material and design based off climbing gear ensures the carrier does as well.  The MyCarrier features double locking carabiners and a shoulder harness that accommodate adults of all shapes and sizes and is approved for the EUR and US safety standards.  Unlike a lot of other carriers out there, this one also makes it possible for the wearer to use it without the need of a second (or third) adult to facilitate.  The 3-in-1 refers to the multiple positions it allows: a front carry with the baby facing inwards towards the wearer, a front carry with the baby facing outwards, and a back carry.  It's meant to grow with your baby as each position provides optimal support and comfort.  The front carry with the baby facing inwards seats the little one in a proper sitting position of the back, buttocks and thighs which correctly places the ball of their hip in the hip socket for good development of the hip joint.  The child will also be able to focus their attention on mom and dad, enabling them to pick up on cues and body language.  Once the child can hold their head up unaided (which usually occurs within three to six months - or around the same time they outgrow their bassinet), the carrier can be quickly adjusted as the baby turns around to view the world as mom and dad do.  In this position, the older baby still feels the comfort of their mom or dad, but is open to extra stimulation to appease their curiosity.  Once they reach a heavier weight and is longer than 72 cm or 28 inches, the back carry is a more comfortable way to carry them for the parent.  The separate back piece is one that parents can secure their children in before even putting the harness on and comes with a detachable head support for on the go naps.  As it should be with all baby products, the front and back carriers can be machine washed in the gentle cycle.  The colors will fade though, as with jeans, and the carabiners will need to be removed.  The main harness, however, is handwash only.

The Story:

Stokke is a Norwegian company that was established and founded in Norway in 1932.  The company consistently focuses on what is best for baby and combines that idea with unique and lasting products.  It has remained within the Stokke family since the very beginning though it has only focused exclusively on children's furniture and gear since 2006.  This determined brand has become established world wide without cutting corners.  They've maintained throughout their history the continual effort to use environmentally friendly and biodegradable materials as well as energy saving production techniques and fuel efficient shipping and distribution methods.  Every product this company produces is built to last a lifetime, to grow and endure as your child grows through the use of high standards in production, durable materials, and flexibility options.

The Seller's Stand-Point:

There are a lot of the popular carriers out there that are limited in the type of positions they allow, but not the MyCarrier.  There are only three color options available (beige, red, and dark navy which looks almost black) and only one carrier so choosing which one is easier and a lot less confusing.  There honestly is no need for different options.  The whole carrier is designed similar to hiking gear so it can be easily adjusted to fit different sizes, though the shoulder straps themselves are not ideally padded.  Instead, they're rather thin and with the weight distributed throughout the wearers body, they can be a little rough on the shoulders.  There is an additional aluminum back support bar that can be inserted into it, however, to help even out where the weight of the baby sits.  There may be slightly more comfortable carriers available, but this one works for everyone and in every position.  You just have to get used to the adjustments that can come across as slightly confusing in the beginning to fully appreciate the capacity of it.  It'll be worth learning.
